Joseph Tou has over 30 years of experience in technology spanning engineering, product, corporate development, equity research, private equity and venture capital. Most recently, Joe was Co-founder and Managing Director at Sony Ventures and based in the Los Angeles area – an epicenter of creativity. With engineering and product heritage at his core, Joe has a strong perspective on how technology can augment and transform consumer and entertainment experiences. Drawing on this expertise, Joe’s investment focus was on early- to growth-stage emerging technology and content startups defining the future of entertainment – spanning diverse domains including gaming, music, video, sports and more.
Prior to Sony Ventures, Joe served as Vice President of Corporate Development at Sony Corporation of America where he led U.S. technology venture and M&A investment activity on behalf of the company for more than a decade.
Before joining Sony, Joe was a senior investment professional in private equity and venture capital at Bertram Capital and Mavent Partners. He also previously served as an equity research analyst covering semiconductor companies at Pacific Crest Securities. Joe’s career has been heavily influenced by his technology development, product, and operational roots at companies such as Intel, Solectron, and Ford.
Joe holds an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management, an M.S. in Engineering
Management, and an M.S. in Operations Research from Northwestern University. He also received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan.
